How will we know we have been successful?

We shouldn’t expect to see results overnight. We will continue to ensure that we get the basics right when providing high quality care. We will aim to achieve the nationally set targets for health services which will show you that local healthcare is of a high standard.

We will use a number of measures to help show you how we are achieving better health for you. Two of these measures will be increasing life expectancy and reducing health inequalities. This means everybody having the same access to services and the same life chances.

The others have been identified as disease and lifestyle factors which make the greatest contributions to early death and poor life quality such as reducing smoking.

These will be published in our final plan in March 2009 and we will regularly report to you what progress we are making.
